Assignment plan session

Went pretty well.  Title good.  Less focus on search skills per se and more on teacher as facilitator.  Have got some books to read from the library (first hurdle overcome!).

These notes are the key points from my assignment proposal:  ICT to enhance learning and teaching; can teachers ignore ICT, changing role of teacher ie managing information; very little interactive ICT; aim to explor how to implement ICT, disjunction between teachers & students, opportunity to engage (ie close the gap).

Slide 5 notes - Models - tutor, tool, tutee (TTT) does touch on this, pluralistic model of pedagagy - ie different models for diferent subjects / aims.

Slide 6 - Thinking can be expressed in a variety of formats (ie not just written down, but vocally, graphically etc).  Can we / should we use technology to express thinking creatively.

Slide 7 - Often computer use is Ritualistic - ie using computers very unimaginatively.  Teachers skill set is an issue.  eg I produce my workbooks as a long, full course document, and then split lessons up to go on Moodle.  If I 'thought' differently, and produced my notes in separate lessons, I would save myself a job.

Digital immigrants and digital natives is the interesting slant.  As is pedagogy - talking about lots of pedagogies (can't remember the exact term but wrote it down), different use of ICT for different courses.

Thoughts for research project - Facebook environment for learners? - trial it and evaluate it's worth in our setting.

Googlio

Found a link to Googlio- eportfolios.  I've already set up a google website, and I think this just goes hand in hand with that... Might be worth a better look though.  It claims to revolutionise teaching and learning in the 21st Century...

Also, how does Harvard referencing work with user generated website content.  Can't provide an author, because there may be too many.  Hmmmm

Random Google generation observation

So I was thinking about my 5 year old, who is learning to read and write at school.  He was on a website the other day (some sort of virtual world where he was a bug of sorts), and there he was trying to chat online, when he can only spell the simplest words on paper!  Made me realise how advanced his computer skills were, and then had to enter into the safety speil - 'don't write in your real name, don't say where you live or how old you are' etc etc.  Not that he could do much without me.

ESW Assignments

Started looking at ESW assignments today.  Sat and did quite a lot of planning whilst hanging around for the kids, and now feel like I've got most of it sussed.  Think I'll create a Word Form with boxes to fill in, so students don't have to actually write.

Also downloaded GIMP to have a play with that.  Looks like we may run it as a graphics course in the new year, so it'll be a bit of a learning curve, but looks like fun.

Need to write up my assignment plan for my masters too...

Feeling the strain of so much going on, but enjoying the variety.

w/b 1 Nov 2010

This week we've been given our assignment.  Think it's pretty broad as to what we have to cover, so I'm trying to tie down a title.  Current favourite is Teaching and Technology:  A data mismatch?

I've set up my twitter account, started this blog, updated my long lost netvibes page, and even created a cartoon.  I'm trying to embrace technology and all that it has to offer and apply it to my teaching.

Interesting stuff

Teaching & Learning and ICT

MA Education and ICT

I've recently started an MA in Education and ICT.  This blog will be a diary of my learning, my teaching, and anything else which I feel might be useful and/or interesting.
